The Impact of Epileptic Seizures in Stroke Patients on the Outcome of the Disease

Stroke remains a leading cause of disability and mortality worldwide. Seizures during stroke are a common complication and are the leading cause of symptomatic epilepsy in individuals over 60 years of age. Post-stroke seizures and post-stroke epilepsy significantly complicate the course of stroke, increasing the risk of disability and mortality, hospitalization and recovery time, and significantly reducing the quality of life of these patients. Furthermore, post-stroke seizures are associated with additional challenges, including limitations in intensive rehabilitation measures, an increased risk of falls and injuries, depression, and difficulties with psychosocial adjustment.
