Abstract

Contemporary research convincingly demonstrates that stress is a key factor influencing the functioning of the female reproductive system. Imbalance within the hypothalamic–pituitary–ovarian and hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal axes leads to menstrual cycle disturbances, reduced fertility, and the development of conditions such as hypothalamic amenorrhea. This article discusses the mechanisms of stress-related effects, the role of neuroendocrine systems in the regulation of reproductive function, the clinical consequences of chronic stress, and current approaches to the classification of stress-induced reproductive disorders.
